Step 1: Try a different cable and USB port
Use a known-good cable and a rear port (on a desktop). Faulty cables are the #1 cause.
Step 2: Try another computer
Rule out a driver or port issue by connecting to a different PC or Mac.
Step 3: Check Disk Management / Disk Utility
If the drive appears there (even as RAW), the drive is likely fine — a logical or bridge issue.
Step 4: Listen and feel
