Terms of Service
Last updated: 20 July 2026
The short version. Diagnosis is free. We quote before we start, and you decide. If we cannot recover your data, you do not pay our recovery fee. We will always tell you honestly what is and is not recoverable.
1. These terms
These terms apply to services provided by CBL Data Recovery Singapore ("CBL", "we", "us") to you ("the customer"). By leaving media with us for diagnosis or recovery, you accept them.
2. Free diagnosis
We assess your media and tell you what has failed, what we believe is recoverable, and what it will cost. The diagnosis is free and carries no obligation to proceed.
Any timeframe we quote is an estimate. Complex physical failures can take longer, and we will keep you informed.
3. Quotation and authorisation
We do not begin recovery work until you have approved the quotation. If the job turns out to be materially different from what the diagnosis suggested, we stop and come back to you with a revised quote before continuing.
4. Free diagnosis & fixed quote
If we cannot recover your data, you do not pay our recovery fee. Where a third-party cost has been incurred with your prior agreement — a donor drive or a specialist part, for example — that cost may still apply, and we will have told you about it in advance.
"Recovered" means we have retrieved the files or file types agreed with you at the point of quotation. Where only partial recovery is possible, we will show you what we have before you commit to paying.
5. What we cannot do
We are honest about the limits, and you should not expect otherwise:
- Recovery is never guaranteed. Some media is beyond recovery — severely damaged platters, degraded NAND, or drives harmed by earlier recovery attempts.
- We do not break encryption. Encrypted volumes need your recovery key or password.
- We do not bypass passcodes, Secure Enclave, Activation Lock, or any account-level protection on phones and tablets.
- We cannot recover data that has been overwritten, or that a factory reset has destroyed.
6. Ownership and lawful access
You confirm that you own the media, or are authorised by the owner to instruct us. We may ask for proof of ownership, and we may decline work where ownership is unclear. You agree to indemnify us against any claim arising from a false statement of ownership.
7. Risk acknowledgement
Failed storage media is, by definition, already unstable. Some media deteriorates further during handling despite correct procedure, and drives that have been opened, frozen, or run through recovery software before reaching us carry a higher risk. We take reasonable care, but we cannot guarantee a failing device will survive the process.
8. Payment, collection and uncollected media
Payment is due on completion, before recovered data and media are released. Please collect your media within 30 days of us telling you the job is complete. After 90 days, uncollected media may be securely destroyed; we will attempt to contact you first using the details you gave us.
9. Confidentiality
We treat everything on your media as confidential. How we handle personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy.
10. Limitation of liability
Our liability in connection with any job is limited to the amount you paid us for that job. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit, business interruption, or the value of the data itself.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the Singapore courts have exclusive jurisdiction.
